Dishwasher repair

Standing water, cloudy glasses or a puddle on the kitchen floor. Most dishwasher faults trace back to a handful of parts, and many are fixed in one visit.

What it's doing, and what is usually behind it

These are the faults we're called for most. The real cause is confirmed by testing, not guessing.

Water left in the bottom
A clogged filter, a blocked air gap at the sink, a kinked drain hose or a failed drain pump.
Dishes come out dirty or gritty
Blocked spray arms, a clogged filter, a weak wash pump or water that isn't getting hot enough.
Leaking onto the floor
A worn door gasket, the wrong detergent making too many suds, a stuck float switch or a leaking pump seal.
Won't start or lights are dead
A door latch that isn't registering, a blown thermal fuse or a failed control board.
Dishes are still wet
A failed heating element or vent. Many European models dry by condensation and depend on rinse aid to work well.
Won't fill
A failed inlet valve or a float stuck in the raised position.
Humming with no water moving
A seized wash motor or something lodged in the pump. Glass and fruit pits are the usual finds.

Before you call

A few of these calls end with a two-minute fix. Try these first. If nothing changes, we're a phone call away.

  • Twist out the filter at the bottom of the tub and rinse it under the tap.
  • Find the air gap, the small cap on the sink next to the faucet. Pull the cap off and clear any debris.
  • Run the garbage disposal for a few seconds. The dishwasher drains through it.
  • Fill the rinse aid dispenser, and use fresh detergent that hasn't clumped.

New disposal, dishwasher won't drain?

A new garbage disposal ships with a plug inside the dishwasher inlet. If nobody knocked it out, the dishwasher has nowhere to drain. It takes a few minutes to fix.

Common questions

Do you repair panel-ready and drawer dishwashers?

Yes. We remove and refit cabinet panels carefully and service drawer-style units as well.

Should I repair or replace my dishwasher?

Pumps, valves, latches and gaskets are sensible repairs on most machines. If the tub is rusting through or the control and motor have both failed, a new unit is usually the better buy, and we'll say so.
