Washing machine repair

Front-load, top-load, stacked and compact units. We find the cause, show you the quote and fix most washers in one visit.

What it's doing, and what is usually behind it

These are the faults we're called for most. The real cause is confirmed by testing, not guessing.

Won't drain, water left in the drum
A sock or coin in the drain pump, a clogged pump filter, a kinked hose or a pump that has failed.
Won't spin or clothes come out soaked
A lid switch or door lock that isn't engaging, a worn drive belt or motor coupling, or a load the machine can't balance.
Leaking
On front-loaders, a torn door boot is the usual suspect. Also fill hoses, the drain pump and the tub seal.
Banging or grinding during spin
Worn drum bearings, tired shock absorbers or suspension rods, or a cracked drum support. Bearings get louder every week, so call early.
Won't fill or fills slowly
Clogged inlet screens, a failed water valve or a faulty pressure sensor.
Stops mid-cycle with an error code
Write the code down. It tells us which circuit to test first and often which part to bring.
Musty smell
Residue and mold in the door gasket and detergent drawer. We clean it out and show you how to keep it from coming back.

Before you call

A few of these calls end with a two-minute fix. Try these first. If nothing changes, we're a phone call away.

  • Confirm both water valves behind the washer are fully open and the hoses aren't kinked.
  • On a front-loader, open the small access door at the bottom and clean the drain filter. Keep a towel and a shallow pan handy.
  • Redistribute the load and try a spin cycle. One heavy item can stop a spin.
  • Use HE detergent, and less of it than the cap suggests. Extra suds cause leaks and error codes.

If water is on the floor right now

Close both supply valves behind the washer and unplug it if you can reach the outlet without stepping in water. In an upstairs unit or condo, let your downstairs neighbor or building manager know.

Common questions

Do you repair stacked and compact washers?

Yes, including 24-inch units and stacked laundry centers in closets. Tell us about access when you book so we arrive ready to unstack.

My washer is loud but still works. Can it wait?

Bearing and suspension noise only gets worse, and a failed bearing can damage the drum. It is cheaper to fix while the machine still runs.
